TGI Friday's Fire


Here's a link to a nice 'told-you-so' story about a TGIF restaurant kitchen extract fire where, "There was heavy fire inside ductwork and fire reached combustible materials above the ceiling, fire officials said."

Apparently this is the third fire in three years (the other two were electrical), which has  led to some cynical comments!

Hi, how come TGIF got caught in this way when several years ago Macdonalds had a unit burnt to the ground in the UK? This was not AC ductwork but a "simple" case of not fitting proper filters and maintaining a formal cleaning regime of the extract over the cookers/fryers. A flame from the gas ring ignited an item which was pulled up into duct and then set fire to the huge globules of fat sitting in the duct.
Even the thought of it as a customer turns the stomach let alone what one would find if cleaning out.
All companies in the food business should have full cleaning regimes and failsafes, regretably in these difficult times something has to give and as usual it is the cleaning
